A clock that speaks the time (a talking clock) is a very valuable and often essential aid for someone with dementia.
A talking clock announces the time loudly and clearly in natural spoken language (for example: “It is quarter past three in the afternoon”), which is immediate and easy for the brain to process, providing peace of mind and reassurance. Your loved one does not have to interpret the clock; it immediately tells them the current time.
Many elderly people, and certainly those with dementia, also experience deterioration in their eyesight. Consequently, even the large, clear screen of the Maziance clock can become difficult to read over time. The spoken time is then an indispensable auditory confirmation or even the only way to find out the time.
If desired, the spoken announcements can be recorded in the user’s own dialect (see the page on dialects).
